www.managingthewaterway.com/press2.htm We're also certified NOAA RNC chart distributors, so we've put together some inexpensive CDs of the latest NOAA charts for each cruising geography. Although the NOAA downloads are now free, downloading and cataloging one-half a gigabyte of charts from a government site is a "challenge" ;-) For $9.95, we had hoped to take a bit of that pain away from cruisers! They seem to be popular and are selling well! Best, Diana

My wife and I visited Elizabeth City last summer, travelling the DSC from Yorktown via Norfolk, in our 32 power boat. It draws about 3 1/2 feet, twin screw. We "bumped" several drowned logs, which were "waterlogged", with our exposed screws (no keel to protect them.) I believe that the logs lay on the bottom and were drawn up into the screws as we passed over them. Even at idle speed, there were some heavy thumps. We tied up for two nights in Eliz. City, and enjoyed our stay at the free city docks, at the end of main st. Also enjoyed other boaters' company. On the ICW in N.C., just over the VA state line, there is a roadside rest area -- docking area combined. One side faces route 17, the other side faces the canal. Overnight tieup is free, and water is available. That broke up the trip home.

Just completed a trip from mid-coast New Jersey, through the Chesapeake, to Ft Myers, through the canal and lake. Dismal Swamp Canal was just delightful - we enjoyed a quiet, most relaxing passage, with warm greeting and assistance from the lock masters. Quietest, most peaceful part of the trip.
